Peke Waihanga – NZ Artificial Limbs Service The Project This building is the home of the Christchurch branch of the New Zealand Artificial Limbs Service who provide orthotic manufacture and repair, along with rehabilitation. It is a bit of a collaboration of mass timber suppliers. XLam CLT walls, Techlam Glulam beams and artistic tree, and Woodspan’s exposed PLT ceilings. The Challenge The client wanted a sustainable and sensible mass timber building that was going to be fast to build and beautiful to work in. RM Design came up with a plan to create a high timber ceiling with varying angles and sweeping curved hallways. The Solution The design features CLT walls and exposed glulam beams, supporting a 90mm mass timber PLT roof. Careful coordination was required between suppliers to make certain all the various components fit together onsite. The shop drawings were completed by Johann and the team at Offsite Design and they did an exceptional job ensuring the 3D model was coordinated and accurate.
