Leblanc House

The Project

An open kitchen and dining room on the upper level of this home has an exposed PLT floor.
This flows through to an exposed ceiling on the ground floor within the bedrooms.
The exposed timber enhances the open, bright feel of the upper level – which looks out over Titahi Bay – enhancing the natural material feel.
On the ground floor the exposed ceiling helps to create a warm feel in the bedrooms, and acts as a statement detail.

38m2 of exposed PLT
90mm FJ (finger joint) panels
Visual with a protective oil finish
Lap joins – fixed from the underside
Flexible sealant on the topside to bridge the tolerance gaps
Matching stair treads

The Solution

See what our clients Joanne and Rémy had to say:

“We love our Woodspan floors and ceilings! The decision to leave the material exposed was a good one. We protected it with natural oil, 6 layers applied with lots of love. The look is beautiful, walking on it bare feet is a joy. The wear shows a bit but we don’t mind the ‘lived in’ look. It is a great warm space. And we can still cover with other flooring material in future if we want to change the look.

One of the key benefits was how quick it was to install. Our builder was surprised by the speed of it – in 47 minutes the floor was down! The house was just a skeleton until the floors arrived and within less than an hour it went from a frame that required a lot of imagination to see as a house, to a structure that felt much closer to the final product.

Great people to deal with, very helpful and open to new ideas!  We made a coffee table and our bathroom cabinetry with the offcuts – they’re as beautiful as the floor.”

Builder’s comments:

“Great product really makes it easy, you will be hearing from in the future for some more.”

Architect’s comments:

“My builder was amazed and so happy. As I will keep the floor as it is he said similar floor would have taken him 4 days to do. Joist + Flooring.”

“Perfect measurements!” (re shop drawings).

“If we have small units requiring mezzanines we would definitely have Woodspan involved. It takes out painting and fire considerations and is good from a building, value and engineering perspective. PLT ticks all the boxes.”
